Some of Durham’s best parks are also some of its more well-known—and well-traveled. If you’re looking for a spot away from the crowds, you might want to try one of these.

Durham Central Park

Durham Central Park is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a park that has it all. With benches, tables, and sculptures, this 5-acre park offers the perfect spot to simply kick back, relax, and soak up the sunshine in one of its many gardens.

There are also plenty of places within the park to host events or stay entertained, including the pavilion, The Leaf, the interactive Pixel Wall, the Butterfly Garden, the Grace Garden, the skate park, the playground, and even a public garden with herbs and fruit you can enjoy for free!

Solite Park

Solite Park is a great place to host a party or enjoy a picnic; there are plenty of outdoor shelters, grills, and picnic tables to use. However, dining spots are hardly the only amenity of this charming Durham park, as there are also play areas, basketball and sand volleyball courts, and greenway trails.

Uniquely, Solite Park also features a growing collection of public art by local artist Cornelio Campos.

Piney Wood Park

Piney Wood Park is home to the first dog park in Durham, so you can bring your furry friend along for a day in the great outdoors. This wooded spot has quite a few fantastic amenities, including an athletic field, a baseball/softball field, tennis courts, and a playground.
