The Why, the What, and the Where of Active Adult Living

Active Adult communities are all the rage these days. New developments are springing up all across the country, promising active, fun and social lifestyles… but what are they really? And are they worth all the fuss?

Here’s what you need to know about Active adult living.

What is Active Adult Living?

The definition of an Active Adult community varies a bit. Some are age-restricted or 55+, which means that all residents (with a few exceptions) must be over a certain age threshold. In general, though, these communities are designed for retirement-aged folks—that is, older adults, often with some extra time on their hands, who want to stay active and social as they age.

So… Why Active Adult Living?

There are a number of benefits to buying in an Active Adult community, from low-maintenance and accessibility features to club and activities to amazing amenities. Here are some perks to Active Adult living.

They’re often low maintenance

It’s very common for retirement communities to cater to a laid-back, easy lifestyle by taking care of maintenance for residents. This might include landscaping, snow removal, and even exterior home maintenance.

They’re social and fun

Another big benefit to retirement living? Since everyone is around the same age, and at about the same stage of life, there are lots of potential friendships just waiting to blossom! Making friends with neighbors has never been easier. And to help matters along, many Active Adult communities offer clubs, interest groups, and even classes or workshops. Some even have their own Lifestyle Directors to plan activities for residents.

They’re filled with amenities

To go along with that active-and-social lifestyle, many retirement communities nowadays are being built with tons of amenities designed to keep residents active and having fun well into their golden years. Common features include clubhouses with game rooms and fitness centers, swimming pools, tennis courts, walking and biking paths, and more. Some might even include golf courses, community gardens, parks, bocce courts, and more.

Say good-bye to hauling winter snow or driving on perilously icy streets, and say hello to more days spent outside enjoying beautiful weather! The Triangle sees four beautiful seasons, but our winters are quite mild and very short.

It’s centrally located

The Triangle is the perfect starting point to just about every adventure. In the heart of North Carolina, this community is about an hour or two from beautiful white-sand Atlantic beaches and two or three hours from the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. So whether you want to surf or hike, you’re never far from your favorite excursion.

It’s FUN!

The Triangle may be convenient to tons of fun activities, but that doesn’t mean you’ll ever actually want to leave! There’s always something fun happening nearby—performing arts, pro and college sports, fairs and festivals—and plenty of fun activities to enjoy—shopping, dining, hiking, biking, boating—there’s no reason to ever stray too far from home.
