Celebrate the Season with These Triangle Fall Activities

Autumn is in the air! The sticky days of summer are just about behind us, mornings are feeling a bit crisper than usual, and soon, the trees will start to display their best seasonal colors as pumpkin spice and cider donuts make their reappearance. It’s a truly lovely time of year here in the Triangle, and there are a ton of great events and activities to enjoy throughout the season.

Here are some of our favorite fall activities to usher in the new season.

Go Leaf Peeping at These Local Parks

Nothing says “Hello Fall!” quite like beautiful fall foliage! And while you can glimpse beautiful colors from just about anywhere around the City in a Park, you’ll get the best views from one of the area’s best parks. For long hikes or even a mountain bike ride, head to Lake Crabtree or Umstead State Park. For a shorter, easier hike, try Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs.

Get Out on the Water (for more leaf peeping)

The Triangle area is home to a number of beautiful lakes surrounded by trees—which, of course, means fantastic fall foliage. You can even rent boats at many of these parks, like Bond Metropark in Cary, Lake Johnson in Raleigh, or Lake Crabtree in Morrisville.

Pick Some Apples

Another quintessentially fall experience? Apple-picking! And even though the Triangle is city-living, there are still plenty of places to get outside and pluck some fruit. Try Millstone Creek Orchards for apple picking, plus hayrides, pie-eating contests, apple cider slushies, and more. Want fresh apples without all the fuss? Head to the State Farmers’ Market.

Pick Some Pumpkins

Once October rolls around, you know Halloween is right around the corner! Get your spooky spirit warmed up with a little pumpkin picking at one of the Triangle’s local farms, like Green Acres Farms in Cary, Naylor Family Farm in Fuquay Varina, or Upchurch Farm in Cary.
