Celebrate Christmas on Salem Street in Historic Downtown Apex

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

When you read that sentence, did you sing it to the tune of that one Christmas song everybody seems to know? If so, that means you’re already in the Christmas spirit!

This is truly a magical time of year. And, it’s about to get even more magical in Downtown Apex. It’s time for the annual Christmas on Salem Street! Beginning tomorrow, Downtown Apex will transform into a winter wonderland. Here’s what we’re most excited for.

The Lighting of the Christmas Tree

Green Christmas tree with holiday decorations hung from its branches.Kick off the festivities at 5 p.m. tomorrow evening, by attending Christmas Carols at the Depot and the Apex Christmas Tree lighting on Salem Street! Mayor Lance Olive will be there, as well as Santa and Mrs. Clause!

Friday night is filled with fun activities for Christmas-enthusiasts of all ages! Take a horse-drawn carriage ride along Salem Street, between Center and Hunter Streets, until 9 p.m. Tickets are available online only.

Not a fan of carriages? Then spend some time chatting with Mr. and Mrs. Clause as they stroll down Salem Street, or check out the Kiddy Christmas Train Ride!

Other Friday night activities include:

  • A “Make Your Own Ornament” workshop in front of the Apex Chamber of Commerce
  • Christmas Cookie Decorating
  • Face Painting
  • Caroling

The Grand Christmas Parade

We can’t wait to see everyone at the Grand Christmas Parade, which begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 1st on Salem Street. If you’re in the area earlier than that, stop by the Downtown Fire House for the Apex Rotary Pancake Breakfast beginning at 7!

Afterwards, Santa will be available for pictures at the Apex Depot.

Historic Holiday Home Tour

Red and white presents sitting underneath a Christmas tree.To round out the holiday festivities, check out the Annual Apex Historical Holiday Home Tour. Beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 5 p.m., take a tour of some of Downtown Apex’s most beautiful historic homes.

Ooh and awe at the gorgeous decorations, and try to imagine what it was like to live in this amazing, one-of-a-kind Apex homes.
